Client work

Use AgentHub in Slack

Ask about a client, get Word and Excel files, and turn a client’s Slack message into a request, in your own private messages with AgentHub, then continue in the app when you need more room.

5 minWorkspace owners, admins and operatorsReviewed September 29, 2026

Before you start

  • Your agency’s Slack workspace connected to AgentHub, with its permissions updated for AgentHub in Slack. An owner, admin or operator role in a workspace with write access. Every answer is an AI step and counts toward your workspace’s AI limits; creating a request is not.

Update Slack’s permissions (owner or admin, once)

Open Integrations, then Slack. Under AgentHub in Slack, choose Update Slack permissions, read what AgentHub processes and stores, tick the confirmation for your organization, choose Continue to Slack and approve in Slack. If your Slack workspace requires app approval, a Slack workspace owner or app manager approves it there. Updating the permissions starts a new installation, so anyone already linked links again once.

Slack

Link your AgentHub account

In Slack, open AgentHub under Apps and send any message. AgentHub replies only to you with Link your AgentHub account; the link works once, for 10 minutes. Sign in, check that the page shows your AgentHub account and your Slack account, and choose Link these accounts. Back in Slack, press Confirm. Nothing is linked until you do, and nothing you sent before linking is kept.

Ask about a client

Write to AgentHub in your private messages, for example “What needs my attention for Oak Dental?” A new thread is about one client when its first message names exactly one of your managed clients; otherwise the answer is across your clients. Working on it… appears first and is replaced by the answer in the same thread. Reply in that thread to follow up. A thread stays with its client; mentioning or comparing other clients is fine. If you ask for a request for a different client, or for no client in particular, AgentHub drafts nothing there and offers the client: choose Continue for the client you named, or pick one from the list. The request continues in a new thread for that client, and the first thread links to it. Open in AgentHub opens the same conversation in the app.

Turn a client message into a request

On a client’s message in Slack, choose More actions, then Create a request. Or paste the message into your private messages with AgentHub and say “make this a request”. If AgentHub cannot tell the client from the channel, it asks you to choose one; it never guesses. If the channel points to the wrong client, use Wrong client? Choose another under AgentHub’s message; the request continues in a new thread for the client you choose. It drafts the request in your private messages, never in the client’s channel. Revise it in plain words, for example “shorter” or “add the Friday deadline”.

When the draft is right, choose Review and create. Check the workflow, title and request, and add only what the form asks for. To add a workflow, choose New workflow, then give its name and where it runs. Choose Create request. If it takes a moment, the form shows Creating the request… and then the result. AgentHub confirms in the thread. Creating a request does not approve its scope or start any work.

Ask for a Word or Excel file

Ask for a document or a workbook in the thread, for example “Make a P&L for Oak Dental with monthly actuals and a budget.” The file is built and posted below the answer, with its version number. Reply in the thread to change it, for example “Add a totals row”; only what you ask for changes. A change that would remove something you did not ask to remove waits for Use this version or Keep current version, under the full list of what it would remove. If the list is too long for Slack, choose in AgentHub with Review in AgentHub. Until you choose, that file does not change.

A thread works on one file at a time. If you selected a different file in the app since, AgentHub asks which one to change first, with a button for each file and Just answer (an answer that changes no file). To switch yourself, use Work on another file under an answer. Sharing a file by private link stays in the app.

Prepare a client update

In a client’s thread, ask for it, for example “Prepare Oak Dental’s September update.” AgentHub makes a draft update for that client from the records and writes its summary from what the client will see in it. The reply shows the dates it used, the summary, and Open to review. With no dates, it uses the last 30 days; the current month runs to today.

To change the summary, reply in the thread, for example “Make it shorter.” If the thread also has a file and your message does not name it, AgentHub first asks The update or The file. Open to review, choose what the client sees, preview, publish and email the update in AgentHub, as you would any update. Nothing is shared until you publish it, and emailing it is a separate step. If your company, job title or email is missing, the reply links to AgentHub to add them first, with the client and dates kept.

Continue in the app

The conversation in the app shows your Slack messages marked From Slack, a draft with Review and create, and the files made in Slack. Whichever you use first, Slack or the app, creates the request once. Work you do in the app is not copied into Slack; the next answer in Slack says when a file changed there, for example “Continuing from the app: the P&L is now version 6.”

Unlink

Choose Not you? Unlink on AgentHub’s confirmation in Slack, or Unlink beside your name on the Slack connection page. An owner or admin can unlink anyone there. Linking again later starts fresh.

Verify it worked

  • Send a question in Slack and check that Working on it… is replaced by the answer.
  • Open the conversation in AgentHub and check that your question is marked From Slack.
  • After Create request, open the request from the confirmation and check its status is Requested.

Common issues

AgentHub does not reply in Slack.

An owner or admin may need to choose Update Slack permissions. Slack guest accounts and people from another organization cannot use AgentHub, and get no reply. AgentHub replies only in your private messages with the app, never in a channel.

The link expired, or says it was used.

Links work once, for 10 minutes. Send any message to AgentHub in Slack to get a new one.

“Only an owner, admin or operator can ask AgentHub.”

Viewers cannot ask the assistant, in Slack or in the app. Ask an owner or admin to change your role.

“Still working on your last message in this thread.”

A conversation answers one message at a time. Wait for the answer, then send the next one. You can ask up to 20 questions an hour in Slack.

A message was refused because it looks like it has a password or key.

Remove the password, token or API key and send it again. Nothing from the refused message was saved.

“An earlier answer may not have arrived in Slack.”

Slack did not confirm a message, and AgentHub never posts a second copy to be safe. The answer is in AgentHub: open the conversation from the link.

The draft is for the wrong client.

A conversation stays with the client it started with. Ask for the request again naming the right client, then choose Continue for that client. After the shortcut, use Wrong client? Choose another. The old draft can then no longer be created, in Slack or the app. A request already created stays with its client.

“AgentHub could not confirm your Slack account just now.”

AgentHub checks your Slack account with Slack at least once an hour, and Slack did not answer. Try again in a minute. A message that got no reply at all was not kept; send it again.

“This form was opened before your Slack link or the Slack connection changed.”

Close the form and choose Review and create again. A form opened before unlinking, linking again or Update Slack permissions creates nothing.

Does the shortcut work in Slack Connect channels shared with a client?

It is designed to: Slack keeps the shortcut to your own organization, so your client cannot use it. It has not been tested in a real Slack Connect channel yet.

A file did not appear in Slack.

The answer says where the file is. If it says an owner or admin needs to update Slack permissions, they choose Update Slack permissions on the Slack connection page; everyone linked links again once. If Slack did not confirm the upload, AgentHub never posts a second copy: open the file in AgentHub.

“This file changed in the app.”

A newer version was made in the app after your message, so nothing was changed and nothing was charged. Say it again to change the newest version.

What is kept from Slack?

AgentHub stores what you send it or choose with the shortcut, new messages in channels your team selects, the names and IDs involved, its answers, files and the requests you create. The copies in Slack stay in your own private messages, under your Slack workspace’s own retention settings; AgentHub does not delete them there. When AgentHub is removed from your Slack workspace, it deletes within 10 days after it learns of the removal the copies it made only to run the app, such as Slack names, link codes and replies waiting to be sent. The conversations, requests, files and client updates your team made stay in your workspace, and can contain Slack wording. See the privacy notice.
